Eco Open Houses

Lewes Eco Open Houses

We try and hold this event annually, depending on resources; both human and financial. Private houses open up to the public to demonstrate at first hand what can be achieved and pass on the benefit of their experience. These are houses where the owners have taken steps to seriously reduce carbon emissions and also reduce their energy bills. In many cases there have been reductions of 80 or 90% whilst making houses warmer. Take a look...

Lewes Open Eco Houses started in 2009 and has been going most years since then. The details about all the houses can be seen via the links below.

In 2009 and 2010 we held two successful Open Eco Houses, where members of the public were invited to visit the homes of people who had implemented a range of energy generating, energy saving and ecological measures. The homes ranged from draughty Victorian houses, council flats and rural cottages to purpose-built ecohouses.

Some of the solutions included:
- Solar photovoltaic arrays
- Wind turbines
- Ground source heat pumps
- Wood burning stoves
- Insulation
- Draughtproofing
- Wall insulation
- Eco-friendly washing machines
- Grey water
- Composting

We are hoping to make the Open Eco Houses an annual and financially self-sustaining event.
